IN THE NEWS: In Game 1 of the WS, the Dodgers defeat the Yankees 4-2 at Ebbets Field behind relief ace Joe Black, who started only 2 games during the season.

Thursday, October 2nd

IN THE NEWS: The Yanks tie up the WS behind the masterful 3-hit pitching of Vic Raschi, who defeats Carl Erskine 7-1. Raschi strikes out 9.

Friday, October 3rd

IN THE NEWS: Brooklyn's Preacher Roe wins in Yankee Stadium 5-3. Brooklyn scores 2 runs in the 9th on Yogi Berra's passed ball.

Saturday, October 4th

IN THE NEWS: The Yankees draw even at home 2-0 behind the shutout pitching of Allie Reynolds. Johnny Mize, inserted at 1B, clubs a HR, single, double, and walk in 4 at bats.

In the famed Little World Series, the Rochester Red Wings(IL) defeat the Kansas City Blues (AA) 4-3.

Sunday, October 5th

IN THE NEWS: At Yankee Stadium, the seesaw WS battle continues as Brooklyn wins 6-5 in 11 innings when Duke Snider doubles home Billy Cox. Carl Erskine goes all the way for the win.

Monday, October 6th

IN THE NEWS: At Ebbets Field, the Yankees even it up for the 3rd time, as Raschi and Reynolds combine for a 3-2 win in Brooklyn. RF Carl Furillo robs Johnny Mize of a HR in the 9th.

Tuesday, October 7th

IN THE NEWS: In Game 7 the Yankees take their 4th consecutive WS championship, as Allie Reynolds, one of 3 relievers, defeats Joe Black 4-2. Billy Martin saves the day by snaring a 2-out, bases-loaded IF pop off the bat of Jackie Robinson. Gil Hodges goes hitless again and is 0-for-21 in the Series. Each Yank will receive a winners' share of $6,026, and each Dodger, a losers' share of $4,200.
