Ex-Giant Danny Gardella, suspended for 5 years
for jumping to the Mexican League, files suit
for $300,000 in damages. He charges that the reserve
clause is "monopolistic and restrains trade." It will

CF Al Gionfriddo's magnificent catch takes
a HR away from Joe DiMaggio, which would have tied
the 6th game of the WS at Yankee Stadium. The Brooklyn
Dodgers go on to win 8-6. There is another WS
attendance record, with a crowd of 74,065 on hand
to watch the game.
IN THE NEWS:
The New York Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 5-2
to win the WS in 7 games. Relief P Hugh Casey of the
Dodgers appears in 6 games, winning 2 while notching
an 0.87 ERA. Series heroes Bevens, Gionfriddo, and
Lavagetto will not play another ML game.

Larry MacPhail resigns as Yankees general manager
moments after the final game of the series. Co-owners
Dan Topping and Del Webb then buy out MacPhail's one-third
interest in the club for $2 million. George Weiss
will become GM.

Radio rights for the WS sell for $475,000 for 3
years. Every franchise but Pittsburgh has sold 1948
TV rights. The Giants get $400,000 for radio-TV rights
from Chesterfield.
