IN THE NEWS: The Browns sign veteran Joe Medwick, who has been released by the Boston Braves. They will release him before the season starts and he will sign up with Brooklyn.

Thursday, March 7th

IN THE NEWS: Negro Leaguer Marvin Williams, playing for Vargas against Margallanes, sets a still-standing Venezuelan League mark by driving in eight runs on two homers and two singles. Vargas wins 16–9.

Sunday, March 10th

IN THE NEWS: In Havana, Cuba, the Red Sox defeat the Senators, 7–3 in a spring training game.

Sunday, March 17th

IN THE NEWS: In Daytona Beach, the Dodgers take the field against their minor-league farm team, the Montreal Royals. With Jackie Robinson in the lineup for Montreal, the game marks the first appearance of an integrated team in organized baseball in this century. More than forty years later, the field will be renamed Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Saturday, March 30th

IN THE NEWS: A holdout from the Browns, SS Vern Stephens signs a 5-year deal with the Pasquel brothers to play in Mexico. The Giants dismiss Roy Zimmerman, George Hausmann, and P Sal Maglie for dickering with the Pasquels, and the trio departs for Mexico. One day later Mickey Owen of the Dodgers signs to manage the Mexican club in Torreón. Stephens will play a couple of games in Mexico, then jump back. Owen announces he will return and then changes his mind again.
