IN THE NEWS: The Phillies get Babe Dahlgren from the Dodgers for vet Lloyd Waner and Al Glossop. It is the Babe's 4th team in less two years.

Saturday, March 13th

IN THE NEWS: The major leagues approve an official ball, which will be made from reclaimed cork and balata in the interior, materials not needed in the war effort. Officials insist the ball will have the resiliency of the 1939 ball, but the players will express dismay that they cannot drive the new ball and point out the dearth of runs and homers in 1942 even with the old ball.

Saturday, March 20th

IN THE NEWS: LF Bob Johnson, a star for the Athletics since 1933, is traded to the Senators for 3B Bob Estalella and Jimmy Pofahl. Johnson has led the A's in RBIs in each of the last seven seasons: no team has ever traded a slugger with that mark.
