IN THE NEWS: Behind 3–0, the Yankees tie it up in the top of the 8th, but rookie Stan Musial singles in Enos Slaughter in the bottom of the inning to forge a 4–3 Cardinal victory.

Saturday, October 3rd

IN THE NEWS: Ernie White shuts out New York on six hits, winning 2–0. Arguments during the game result in $200 fines for Joe Gordon and Frank Crosetti; the latter will also suspended for the first 30 days of the 1943 season for shoving umpire Bill Summers.

Sunday, October 4th

IN THE NEWS: The Cards get six runs in the 4th, but the Yankees tie the game with five in the 6th. St. Louis scores three more runs to win 9–6 in a 22-hit game.

In a rematch of last year's IBA world championship, Cubs tops Venezuela, 8–0, behind Connie Marrero's 3-hitter. Venezuela is led by 2B Luis Aparicio, Sr. and losing pitcher Chino Canonico. The 31-year-old Marrero will debut with the Washington Senators in 1950.

Monday, October 5th

IN THE NEWS: Whitey Kurowski's 2-run home run in the 9th inning gives St. Louis a 4–2 World Series triumph and enables the Cardinals to upset the New York Yankees in five games.
