IN THE NEWS: A judgment of $52,000 is awarded to the Baltimore club from Brooklyn. When Baltimore left the NL in 1903, Brooklyn agreed to pay $40,000 for the franchise but never did. The award includes interest.
IN THE NEWS: The first suit for damages resulting from the Phillies' 1903 ballpark disaster ends with the acquittal of club owners A.J. Reach and John Rogers.
IN THE NEWS: Popular Boston Pilgrims OF Chick Stahl, who replaced Jimmy Collins as manager of the now named Red Sox at the end of the 1906 season, commits suicide while travelling with the team in West Baden Springs, IN. After breakfast he returned to his room and drank four oz. of carbolic acid. He left a note: "Boys, I just couldn't help it. You drove me to it." Cy Young reluctantly agrees to start the season as Boston's manager, but there will be three others during the year.
IN THE NEWS: Boston OF Cozy Dolan, who played the full schedule of NL games in 1906, dies of typhoid fever in Louisville. The Doves cancel the remainder of spring training.
