For the 2nd time in 10 days, last-place Louisville
breaks an opponent's winning streak this time by beating
the Phillies 9-8, snapping their 12-game streak.
On August 30th the Colonels halted Brooklyn's 11-game
streak with a 6-5 win.
In the 8th inning of the Baltimore-Brooklyn game a
foul tip shatters the mask of umpire Tim Hurst, driving
a wire into his forehead which strikes an artery.
Amazingly, Hurst remains in the game despite the blood.
Two days before the end of the season Baltimore finally
clinches the NL pennant with a 5-2 victory over
the New York Giants. Cleveland's 9-8 win in Louisville
goes for naught.
