Cleveland picks up Sam Zoldak from the Browns for Bill Kennedy and $100,000. Kennedy will win seven for the Browns in 1948, while Zoldak will be 9-6 for the Tribe.» August 1, 1948: At Cleveland, the Tribe sweep a pair from the Red Sox, 12–2 and 6–1, to move into 2nd place in the American League. Bob Lemon coasts to his 14th win in the opener, beating Ellis Kinder. Larry Doby drives in four runs. Cleveland RF Edwards dislocates his shoulder crashing into the fence making a spectacular catch of Spence's home run bid. Sam Zoldak wins the nitecap. The Sox drop from 1st to 4th place with the double loss: Cleveland, New York and Boston are each a game back of the A's.
» August 20, 1948: The Indians draw record 78,382 for the largest crowd to attend a night game. The Indians go on to beat the Chicago White Sox, 1–0, at Memorial Stadium as Satchel Paige blanks the opposition on three hits for the 4th consecutive shutout by Cleveland hurlers. Bill Wight is the hard-luck loser. Besides Paige, Gene Bearden, Sam Zoldak, and Bob Lemon fired shutouts.

The Yanks stroll into 2nd-place by edging the Indians, 3–2. Ahead 2–1, Sam Zoldak wilts in the 98 degree weather and Gene Bearden replaces him in the 9th. DiMaggio is hit, and two wild throws brings in Ed Klieman, who finishes the walk to Berra. A Brown sac bunt, and an intentional pass to Rizzuto loads the bases. Mapes walks to force a run and a grounder brings home the winner.
» April 30, 1951: In a complex 3-way deal, the White Sox get OF/3B Minnie Minoso from the Indians and OF Paul Lehner from the Athletics. Philadelphia sends P Lou Brissie to Cleveland and gets OF Gus Zernial and Dave Philley from Chicago and P Sam Zoldak and C Ray Murray from Cleveland. Hard-luck lefty Lou Brissie is considered the plum in the proceedings. Rookie Minoso, who hit .339 at San Diego (PCL) last year is leading all Indian hitters with a .461 mark.
» July 15, 1951: Athletics lefty Sam Zoldak pitches a one-hitter against the White Sox, winning 5–0 in the second game of a doubleheader. Carrasquel has the lone safety, a dribbler between SS and 3B. Zoldak also drives in 2 runs. Bob Hooper is the winner for the A's in game 1, helping the cause with a 3-run HR. The A's lose Ferris Fain when he grounds out in game 1 and, in disgust, kicks 1B breaking his foot. Fain is leading the AL with a .337 average. He'll return on August 21.

The Indians triumph over the A's, 1–0, on Bob Kennedy's homer off Sam Zoldak. It is Sam's 2nd 1–0 loss to the Tribe. Early Wynn wins his 15th to keep the Indians a game ahead of New York, 7–5 winners in 10 innings at St. Louis.
