Signed out of high school by the Cardinals in 1937, the lefthanded-hitting Wyrostek first became a regular with the 1946 Phillies after a stint in the army. Traded to Cincinnati, he had a career-high 17 home runs in 1948 and batted .311 in 1951 - his second straight year as an All-Star right fielder. He hit 20 or more doubles each year from 1946 through 1951. (AL)
