Lefthanded-batting Chuck Workman led two minor leagues in home runs as a Cleveland farmhand in 1940 (Three-I League) and 1942 (Southern Association). He saw regular major league action only with the Braves during WWII; as their third baseman in 1945, he hit 25 HR. He floundered in spacious Forbes Field after his 1946 trade to Pittsburgh and was bothered by ulcers. Falling back to the minors, he set Southern Association records with 52 HR and 182 RBI for Nashville in 1948 and led the American Association with 41 HR for Minneapolis in 1949. (ME)
