Woodall was a smart, solid backup catcher for almost a decade with the Tigers. He joined the Red Sox as a coach under manager Joe Cronin in 1942 and became the director of publicity when Cronin became Boston's GM. He continued with the Red Sox as a scout and director of tryout camps. (JK)
