»September 24, 2001: Pittsburgh rookie Craig Wilson ties the major-league record for pinch-hitter home runs in a season by hitting his 7th in the Pirates' 7–6 win over the Cubs. Dave Hansen of the Dodgers set the mark last season.

The Pirates rout the Cubs, 13–1. Craig Wilson after getting hits in each of the final three innings of Pittsburgh's last game, gets hits in each of the first three innings against Chicago, giving him hits in six consecutive innings, against six different pitchers, a ML mark. Cubs pitchers fan 10 Pirates, giving them 1,250 Ks for the year for a new ML mark.
