Wilson was signed
for a reported $75,000 by the White Sox but spent all of 1951 and
1952 in the military. Traded to the A's in June 1954 after a slow start, he was their
regular centerfielder and finished the year with 17 HR in 358 at-bats, but struck
out too much (64) and hit only .232.
