Williams joined the A's in 1930 and played for two straight pennant winners. A utility
infielder, he sat as veteran Joe Boley played shortstop and batted .095 in the 1930
World Series. For the 1931 Series, Connie Mack replaced Boley with the strong-armed
Williams; Williams responded by batting .320.
