Native New Yorker Williams pitched for the Mets in 1971, before moving across the
country in the deal that brought Willie Mays from the Giants. Strong-armed but with
unreliable control, he was used mainly in long relief. Although he saved only four
games in 235 relief appearances, he had 16 wins out of the bullpen.
