Maddux goes the route, winning his 15th, beating Brian Williams. » December 28, 1994: The Astros obtain OF Derek Bell, IF Ricky Gutierrez, P Pedro Martinez, OF Phil Plantier, and IF Craig Shipley from the Padres in exchange for 3B Ken Caminiti, SS Andujar Cedeno, OF Steve Finley, 1B Roberto Petagine, P Brian Williams, and a player to be named. P Sean Fesh will go to the Padres next May to complete the 12-player deal, the biggest in the major leagues since 1957.
» June 3, 1995: Pitching against the Padres, Expos P Pedro Martinez (4–1) retires the first 27 batters, only to see the Pods Bip Roberts lead off the 10th inning with a double. Reliever Mel Rojas then retires the next three batters. San Diego starter Joey Hamilton is almost as good, giving up just three hits and no runs through nine innings. Reliever Brian Williams yields Jeff Treadway's RBI single in the top of the 10th. With the rules regarding no-hitters revised in 1991, Martinez receives credit for neither a perfect game nor a no-hitter. The win moves the Expos to within three games of the National League East-leading Phillies.

The Astros Jeff Bagwell suffers a broken hand when his is hit by a pitch in the 4th from Brian Williams in the Astros 7–1 win over the Padres. It is the same bone that he broke last year when he was hit by a pitch from Andy Benes on August 10, two days before the strike.
