Books and articles about Bill Wegman

Wegman led the California League in both wins (16) and ERA (1.30) at Stockton in 1982, earning Brewers Minor League Player of the Year honors, and by 1986 was in Milwaukee's starting rotation. The 6'6" righthander was 5-12 in 1986, but improved to 12-11 the next year.

Throughout his career, Wegman earned the reputation as a workhorse who would chew up innings. He won a career-high 15 games in 1991, sporting a 2.84 ERA, and tossed at least 190 innings five times.

A hard-luck pitcher throughout his career, Wegman often posted poor records that belied the level to which he pitched. He spent his entire eleven-year career with the Brewers. (SCL/GL)

FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» July 17, 1991: Randy Johnson takes just four innings to rack up 10 walks. He fans 4, tosses a wild pitch and allows one hit and four runs in his stint, a 6–1 loss to the Brewers. Bill Wegman takes the complete game win.

» September 11, 1992: The O's Mike Mussina (15-5) bests the Brewers Bill Wegman, 3–2 as both pitchers go the distance. Cal Ripken twists his ankle running out a 2B, but stays in the game. The O's will recall SS Manny Alexander, but Ripken keeps the streak going.

» October 1, 1995: Boston's Chris Donnels hits a 9th inning homer for Boston's only run in an 8-1 loss to the Brewers and Scott Karl. It is Donnels last ML at bat. Watching the ball sail over the RF wall is Brew's pitcher Bill Wegman, installed in RF in the 9th inning. Wegman, with the Brewers organization since 1981, is making his last ML appearance as well.
