» August 10, 2001: The Royals defeat the Tigers, 7–3, in a game marked by a 6th inning brawl set off when KC 1B Mike Sweeney charges Detroit P Jeff Weaver after Weaver calls him a profane name. Numerous punches are thrown as both benches and bullpens clear. After a 12–minute delay, the game resumes with Sweeney, KC coach Al Nipper, and Detroit coach Doug Mansolino ejected from the contest. Sweeney will be suspended 10 games for his actions, and Detroit catcher Robert Fick eight games. Five other players and four coaches will also be disciplined.

» September 28, 2001: On Jeff Weaver bobblehead night, Weaver pitches eight scoreless innings as Detroit beats Boston, 4–1.

» May 19, 2002: The Detroit Tigers stage a unique promotion -- an octopus–throwing contest in honor of the Stanley Cup Western Conference Championship Series, which began yesterday at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena. Throwing boiled octopi on the ice is a hockey tradition in Detroit. Each participant in the Tigers' contest threw the octopi at a target with the winner getting a limo ride to the nearby Arena and tickets to the second game of the Conference Championship. Tiger pitchers Jeff Weaver and Matt Anderson try their luck along with fifty fans, but neither pitcher hits his target. The Rangers must've thought they were hitting octopus, as they lose the game, 2–1. Seth Greisinger allows one run in six 2/3 innings, and Dmitri Young's homer in the 4th snaps a 1–1 tie.

» May 22, 2002: The Tigers defeat the Indians, 2–0, on Jeff Weaver's 1–hitter. OF Chris Magruder's double with two outs in the 8th inning in his Cleveland debut is the Tribe's only safety.

» July 5, 2002: The Yankees obtain P Jeff Weaver from the Tigers in a 3–team deal. NY sends P Ted Lilly to the Oakland A's while the Athletics send IF Carlos Pena to Detroit. The Tigers also acquire P Franklin German and a player to be named from Oakland, while the A's get OF John–Ford Griffin and P Jason Arnold from New York.
