Vosmik caught the eye of the wife of Indians' general manager Billy Evans at a tryout in Cleveland. Needing to sign one more local boy, Evans asked his wife's opinion. She chose "the good-looking blond boy." Vosmik spent two seasons in the minors, batting .381 and .397, then hit .320 for Cleveland in 1931. He topped the .300 mark in six of his ten seasons as a regular. In 1935 he led the AL in hits (216), doubles (47), and triples (20) and batted .348 to finish one percentage point behind Buddy Myer in the AL batting race. He was traded to the Browns in 1947 and in 1948 had a league-high 201 hits for the Red Sox. (JK)

In Cleveland's doubleheader, Vosmik pinch hits in game one making an out, and plans on taking the rest of the afternoon off. When he hears that Myers is hot, he plays, going 1-for-3 to "lose" the title.
