Veryzer became the Tigers' shortstop in 1975, when he was named to the Topps' Rookie All-Star team, and remained through 1977. Supplanted by Alan Trammell, he was traded to the Indians for Charlie Spikes. In four seasons as a starter for Cleveland, he twice batted .271. Despite an adequate bat and a good glove, he never put solid seasons back to back, partly due to injuries. (ME)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» June 8, 1975: Detroit's Tom Veryzer doubles with two out in the 9th to stop Oakland's Ken Holtzman's no-hitter. Outfielder Bill North misjudges Veryzer's hit, but is not charged with an error. Holtzman retires the last hitter for a 4–0 victory.

» May 17, 1984: In the 3rd inning at Cincinnati, Mario Soto strikes out four Cub batters (Tom Veryzer, Dick Ruthven, Bob Dernier and Ryne Sandberg) enroute to a 5–3 Reds victory.
