FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» August 9, 1995: The Giants defeat the Pirates, 4-3. The winning pitcher is William Van Landingham and the loser, Jason Christiansen. The 25 letters in the surnames of the two pitchers of record is the most ever in a major league game.

» August 26, 1996: The Giants' William Van Landingham allows two hits over eight innings and defeats the visiting Phils, 1–0. At one point, Van Landingham retires 17 straight hitters. Curt Schilling allows a run in the 1st, and strikes out 11, in taking the loss.

» June 10, 1997: Kevin Brown fires the season's first no-hitter, with just a hit batter preventing the Marlins' ace from a perfect game. Florida stops the Giants, 9–0. With two outs in the eighth, Brown's 1-2 pitch nicks Marvin Benard on the right leg. Giant starter William Van Landingham also takes a no-hitter into the seventh, but Charles Johnson's two-run homer with one out opens a 7-run deluge.
