In Atlanta's 3–1 win over the Expos, Montreal first baseman David Segui fractures his left thumb when pitcher Ugueth Urbina fires over to 1B and hits his teammate. Henry Rodriguez takes over at 1B.

Montreal reliever Mel Rojas signs with the Cubs for a three-year $13.75 million contract. With Ugueth Urbina waiting in the wings, the Expos found the expensive Rojas expendable.

Ugueth Urbina strikes out the Dodgers in the top of the ninth on nine pitches tying the ML record. Since it comes in the ninth inning of a 10-4 Expos loss before a small crowd, nobody seems to notice this particular feat.

The Yankees attempt to shore up their bullpen by getting P Jay Witasick from the Padres for infield prospect D'Angelo Jimenez. The Yanks first choice, Expos P Ugueth Urbina, failed to pass a physical and will end up with the Red Sox. The Padres released vet SS Chris Gomez yesterday.
