» June 23, 2001: The Yankees attempt to shore up their bullpen by getting P Jay Witasick from the Padres for infield prospect D'Angelo Jimenez. The Yanks first choice, Expos P Ugueth Urbina, failed to pass a physical and will end up with the Red Sox. The Padres released vet SS Chris Gomez yesterday.

» July 31, 2001: The Red Sox obtain P Ugueth Urbina from the Expos for pitchers Tomo Ohka and Rich Rundles. Urbina's name was one of the most widely mentioned in the trade rumors.
