Signed by Detroit out of Bradley University, where he also played football, Tuttle excelled on defense, twice leading AL outfielders in putouts and in assists. His best offensive year was 1959, when he hit .300 for Kansas City. On May 28 of that year, he had four hits, including a home run, against Cleveland. He wore number 13 throughout his career. (RTM)

» May 27, 1955: At Detroit, Frank House's home run is the only score as Bill Hoeft beats the White Sox, 1–0. In the 9th, Bill Tuttle runs down a 415 ft. drive by Jim Rivera that Schoolboy Rowe calls "the greatest catch since White's robbery of Martin in the '34 Series."

» November 20, 1957: The KC Athletics trade infielder Billy Martin, outfielders Gus Zernial and Lou Skizas, pitchers Maury McDermott and Tom Morgan, and C Charlie Thompson to Detroit. In exchange, the Tigers send outfielders Bill Tuttle, Jim Small, pitchers Duane Maas and John Tsitouris, C Frank House, SS Kent Hadley, and a player to come later.

» April 15, 1958: OF Bill Tuttle of the Athletics records 2 assists in the 2nd inning, tying a ML record. The A's win 5-0 and beat Herb Score in his first appearance following his injury. Score lasts 3 inning.

» September 18, 1958: For the second time in a month, the first two leadoff hitters homer. This time it is KC's Bill Tuttle and Roger Maris connecting off Boston's Ted Bowsfield as the A's win, 4–1. Bob Cerv hits #37 for the A's and Pete Daley homers off winner Bud Daley for Boston's score.
