Turner had an extraordinary season as a pinch hitter in 1978, leading the NL with
20 pinch hits; coming in 49 pinch at-bats, good for a .408 average. His overall .280
average earned him the Padres' right-field job for 1979, his only season as a regular.
He hit .248 with nine HR and career highs of 61 RBI and 55 runs in 448 at-bats but
fielded a startlingly poor .958.
