First signed out of Venezuela by Philadelphia, Trillo debuted with Oakland and was
the Cubs' second baseman for four years before returning to the Phillies in a 1979
trade. He batted a career-high .292 for the 1980 World Champion Phillies and was
named MVP of the LCS when he hit .381 with four RBI against Houston. Winning his
third Gold Glove in 1982, he set since-broken major league second base records for
consecutive errorless games in a season (89) and consecutive errorless chances accepted
(479). He also set a since-broken league records for fielding percentage (.9937)
at second base. Sent to Cleveland in a deal for Von Hayes that December, in 1983
he became the first player to be chosen to the starting All-Star squad in successive
years in different leagues. Six weeks after the 1983 All-Star Game, the Indians sold
Trillo to Montreal. By 1986, he was back with the Cubs as a utility man.
