The bespectacled Timmermann spent 9-1/2 years in the Tiger farm system before becoming the Detroit sportswriters' "Tiger of the Year" in 1970, when he set club records for appearances (61) and saves (27). After relieving in 1969-71, he started 25 games in 1972 and posted a 2.89 ERA. (JCA)
