Thurmond was the lefthanded starter on the 1984 NL All-Star Team, going 14-8, 2.97 for the Padres, but was used mostly in relief after 1986. In the 1984 WS against the Tigers, Thurmond lost Game One 3-2, and retired only one batter after starting Game Five, surrendering three runs. He was traded to the Tigers for Dave LaPoint in July 1986, and to the Orioles for Ray Knight before the 1988 season. (SCL/GL)
