Thormahlen pitched for the Yankees in the years before they began winning pennants. One day in 1918 he took a no-hitter into the ninth inning of a scoreless game. He got two outs, then gave up two singles and a walk. When the next batter's easy fly was dropped by Ping Bodie, Thormahlen lost 1-0. (JK)
