FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» August 27, 1992: The Mets trade P David Cone to the front runner Blue Jays in exchange for IF Jeff Kent and OF Ryan Thompson. Cone will miss leading the NL in strikeouts by one as John Smoltz registers a K on the final day of the season. Cone, who led the NL in strikeouts the past two seasons, would have been the first NL pitcher in 50 years to lead in strikeouts for three consecutive years.

» March 31, 1996: Hours before Opening Day, the Mets add a 5th starter to replace three of their ailing young arms on the DL. New York sends the expendable Ryan Thompson and pitcher Reid Cornelius to the Indians for Mark Clark. Clark was 20–10 over the past two seasons.

» June 6, 1997: The Blue Jays trade IF Jeff Manto to the Indians in exchange for OF Ryan Thompson.

» September 8, 2000: The Yankees calcimine the Red Sox, 4-0, behind Roger Clemens. A scary moment occurs in the 9th inning when Boston P Bryce Florie is hit in the face with a line drive off the bat of Ryan Thompson. The Red Sox hurler never loses consciousness and leaves the field with blood streaming down his face. Florie suffers a fractured cheekbone and a fracture of the orbital socket, the bone that surrounds the eye, and retinal damage. He will undergo surgery .
