» May 27, 1996: The Tigers lose their 12th straight, dropping a 5–4 decision to the Royals in 13 innings. Detroit has now lost 32 of their last 36 games. Highly-touted rookie Justin Thompson tosses the first eight innings, leaving with a 4–1 lead, but the Bengals make three errors in the 9th to help KC tie it..

» June 30, 1997: Bobby Higginson belts three home runs and drives in seven runs and Justin Thompson allows four hits in eight innings as Detroit kicks the Mets, 14–0. It is the most lopsided shutout in Mets history. Detroit hits more homers (6) than the Mets have hits (5), and it is the most home runs given up by Mets' pitchers since April 29, 1978.
