» October 4, 1991: Trailing 32 in the 9th, Cleveland's Jim Thome hits a two-out, two-run homer, his first in the majors, to give the Tribe the lead over the Yankees. Steve Olin pitches the 9th to save the win for reliever Eric Bell. With four wins over the past month, Bell (4-0) ends the year with the most wins for an undefeated pitcher on a team losing a hundred games (as noted by Greg Crouse).
» July 22, 1994: Cleveland defeats Chicago, 9-8, as Indians' 3B Jim Thome clouts three solo home runs. The victory moves the Tribe to within two games of the division-leading Chisox.
» October 14, 1995:
Cleveland evens the ALCS at 2 games apiece with a 7-0 win behind Ken Hill. Eddie Murray and Jim Thome homer for the Indians, and Orel Hershiser gets his 3rd victory of the postseason.
» October 15, 1995: Another Jim Thome homer helps Cleveland defeat the Mariners, 3-2, in Game 5 of the ALCS.
» October 26, 1995: Cleveland stays alive with a 5-4 win in Game 5 of the WS. Orel Hershiser gets credit for the win, and Albert Belle, Jim Thome, Luis Polonia, and Ryan Klesko all reach the seats.
» June 20, 1996: The Indians win their 13th straight over the Red Sox, winning 54 on Kenny Lofton's bloop single in the 9th off Mike Stanton. Jim Thome hits a game-tying home run in the 8th, off Roger Clemens, the 17th straight game in which the Indians have gone deep, a team record. Clemens leaves after 157 pitches with no decision.
» July 22, 1996: Toronto's Erik Hanson walks Cleveland's Jim Thome without throwing a 4th ball. With the count 2-2 the pitch is wide and Thome jogs to 1B. Ump Mike Everitt, a fill-in from the PCL, had incorrectly called the count 32 before the pitch, and Thome, who knew better, didn't correct him. The next batter Albert Belle hits a 3-run double for a 4-2 win.
» August 18, 1996: Cleveland 3B Jim Thome strokes four hits, including a pair of homers, and drives home six runs to lead the Indians to an 113 victory over the Tigers.
» August 20, 1996:
Rangers SS Kevin Elster drops a throw, ending Texas's errorless streak at an American League-record-tying 15 games. The Indians defeat the Rangers, 10-4, behind their powerful middle lineup: Manny Ramirez hits a grand slam, Albert Belle has a homer and two triples, and Jim Thome homers.
» September 8, 1996: In the Indians DH split with the Mariners, Jim Thome knocks in his 100th run in opener, a 154 win. Thome reaches the 30 homer, 100 runs, 100 runs, 100 walksjust the 2nd Indian to ever do that. Al Rosen in 1950 was the other. Charles Nagy (15-4) wins game 1, while the M's prevail 65 in the nitecap.
» June 23, 1997:
In Cleveland, Matt Lawton has four hits and Brad Radke wins his fourth straight start as the Twins top Cleveland. 72. Pat Meares has a two-run homer for the Twins. For Cleveland, Sandy Alomar extends his hitting streak to 22 games with a single and Jim Thome accounts for all the scoring with two solo homers.
» August 4, 1997:
Manny Ramirez homers and drives in four runs, and Jim Thome hits his 30th homer as the Indians beat Detroit, 72. Charles Nagy improves to 12-4 lifetime against the Tigers, his most wins against any club. Thome is the first Cleveland lefthanded hitter to hit 30 homers in successive seasons since Hal Trosky in 1936-37. Scott Sanders (3-9), making his fourth start since being traded to Detroit from Seattle, was the loser. He has lost all three of his decisions in a Tigers uniform.
» August 27, 1997: Indian teammates honor Jim Thome by wearing their socks high, a fashion statement they'll continue into the World Series. But today they might've shaved their heads instead as Matt Williams drives in a major-league record tying six runs in a 10-run 4th as the Indians beat California, 104. Williams has a 3-run double and a 3-run home run. In between his hits, Marquis Grissom clouts a grand slam. Williams six ribbies in an inning is a club record. The last batter to knock in six in a frame was Matt Stairs, on July 5, 1996.
» September 14, 1997: Sandy Alomar hits a bases-loaded single to key a bizarre seven-run 8th, and Cleveland defeats Chicago, 83. Jim Thome nails his 40th homer for the Indians. Chicago ties a major league record by using nine pitchers in the nine-inning game, including five in the 8th. The 4th in that inning, Keith Foulke, is called in without a warmup by manager Terry Bevington to intentionally walk a batter. The Tribe increases its American League Central lead to seven 1/2 games over Chicago and Milwaukee. Before the game the Sox retire Carlton Fisk's #72. Bitter over his 1993 release and not being allowed into locker room during the playoffs that year, Fisk requests that Jerry Reinsdorf and GM Ron Schueler not be there for the ceremony.
» October 21, 1997: In a slugfest, the Marlins plate seven runs in the 9th inning to outscore the Indians, 14-11, and take Game 3. Gary Sheffield drives in five runs for Florida on three hits, including a double and home run. Darren Daulton and Jim Eisenreich also homer for the Fish, while Jim Thome connects for Cleveland.
» October 2, 1998:
Cleveland takes a 41 lead into the bottom of the 9th against Boston in Game three of their series. A 2run home run by Nomar Garciaparra brings the Sox within 1, but that's how it ends, with the Indians winning, 43. Cleveland's runs come on solo home runs by Manny Ramirez (2), Jim Thome, and Kenny Lofton.
» October 9, 1998: Cleveland takes a 61 victory over the Yankees on the strength of four home runs: two by Jim Thome, and one each by Manny Ramirez and Mark Whiten. Andy Pettitte gives up three of the homers in 5th inning.
» October 11, 1998: New York gets three runs in the 1st, then holds on for a 53 win over the Indians in Game 5. David Wells picks up the victory, with Chili Davis, Jim Thome, and Kenny Lofton all hitting homers.
» October 13, 1998: The Yankees move on to the World Series, as they defeat the Indians, 95, to take the ALCS, four games to 2. Scott Brosius homers for NY, while Jim Thome hits his 6th of the postseason for Cleveland.
» April 23, 1999:
At Fenway, ex-Red Sox hitter Wil Cordero hits a 2-run home run, off Jim Corsi, in the 6th to give the Indians a 76 win over Boston. His hit follows the 2nd bench clearing brawl of the game. Rheal Cormier plunks Jim Thome and Corsi relieves. The first brawl comes in the 5th after Jarret Wright allows a homer, walk and single, then hits Darren Lewis with a pitch. Both are tossed. Lofton, leading off, and Fryman homer for Cleveland. The American League will suspend Indians P Jaret Wright (5 games) and 1B Jim Thome (3 days), and Red Sox OF Darren Lewis (3 days) and P Rheal Cormier (3 games) for participating in the brawls. All will appeal.

» October 7, 1999:
The Indians slug the Red Sox, 11-1, to take a two game lead in their division series. Charles Nagy gets the win for Cleveland, as Harold Baines hits a 3-run homer and Jim Thome, a grand slam.
» April 20, 2000:
The Indians defeat the A's, 9-5. John Jaha strikes out five times for Oakland to tie a major league mark, last done by Jim Thome on April 9.
» July 6, 2001:
The Indians defeat the Cardinals, 142. 1B Jim Thome hits three home runs and drives home six runs for Cleveland.
» August 26, 2001:
The Diamondbacks score in the 10th inning to defeat the Phillies, 43. Philadelphia rookie SS Jimmy Rollins is caught stealing in the 3rd inning, the first time in his career after a streak of 35 consecutive steals. Luis Gonzalez receives the ultimate compliment when the Phils give him an intentional walk with the bases empty. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Gonzalez joins Manny Ramirez Jason Giambi, Mike Piazza, and Jim Thome as the only players to receive an intentional pass with the bases empty this season. Ramirez is the only one of the group to have been walked intentionally twice this year with no ducks on the pond.
» July 4, 2002: The Yankees defeat the Indians, 71. Jim Thome has his streak of consecutive games hitting a home run stopped at 7, one short of the ML record.
» September 1, 2002: Boston trims the Indians, 71, behind the strong pitching of Tim Wakefield, who doesn't allow a hit before Matt Lawton's home run in the 5th. Manny Ramirez and Brian Daubach hit backtoback HRs, and Johnny Damon scores three runs. Jim Thome reached 100 walks for the 4th consecutive year and the 6th time in his career. Thome is the only player in Indians history to ever have consecutive 100 walks seasons.
» October 22, 2002:
Cleveland 1B Jim Thome is announced as the winner of the 2002 Roberto Clemente Award for excellence on and off the field.
» December 2, 2002: In the biggest free-agent signing this year, the Phillies sign Indians 1B Jim Thome to a 6-year contract.
