Yankee manager Miller Huggins included Thomas in his 1927 plans, until New York's
aging frontline pitchers, Urban Shocker and Bob Shawkey, began to come through. Thomas
had seven wins by mid-July, but found himself working less and less. In June 1929
the Penn State graduate whom Babe Ruth called "Duck Eye" was waived to Washington.
