From September 1 to 10 as an Angels rookie in 1961, Thomas went 23-for-39 (.590). On September 5 in a doubleheader at Kansas City, he had nine hits and 19 total bases, with three homers and eight RBI, tying the ML record for hits in a twin bill. He hit 50 homers in his first two seasons and played in both 1962 All-Star Games. (RTM)

» May 8, 1961: The Angels trade P Tex Clevenger and OF Bob Cerv to the Yankees for P Ryne Duren, P Johnny James, and OF Lee Thomas. For Cerv, it is his 3rd tour of duty in pinstripes.

» September 5, 1961: Los Angeles's Lee Thomas ties the major-league record with nine hits in a doubleheader, five in the first game and 4, including three home runs, in the 2nd. Thomas ties the American League record with 19 total bases in a doubleheader. But Kansas City wins both games from the Angels, 7–3 and 13–12.

» May 6, 1962: Lee Thomas has five hits to lead a 19-hit attack by the Angels as they beat the Orioles, 15–7, to sweep the 3-game series. Brooks Robinson hits a grand slam to tie the game at 7–7 in the 5th.

» August 28, 1962: Angels thumpers Lee Thomas, Leon Wagner, and Bob Rodgers hit consecutive home runs in the 4th inning of a 10–5 trouncing of Kansas City.

» August 23, 1963: 1B Lee Thomas of the Angels ties a major-league record by participating in six DPs in a 17–0 romp at Washington. 3B Felix Torres starts four of them to tie a ML record. Ken McBride is the recipient of the outburst while Steve Ridzik is the loser.

» June 4, 1964: The Angels trade OF Lee Thomas to the Red Sox for OF Lu Clinton.
