Temple was the popular second baseman for the Reds during the 1950s, a four-time NL All-Star. He hit .300 three times and tied for the NL lead in walks in 1957 with 94. He led NL second basemen three times in putouts and once each in assists and double plays. (JK)

» June 27, 1958: At Cincinnati, Johnny Temple drills a 2-out triple in the 9th inning to drive in two runs. The Reds beat the Giants, 6–5.

» December 15, 1959: The Reds send 2B Johnny Temple to the Indians for 2B Billy Martin, P Cal McLish, and 1B Gordy Coleman.

» November 16, 1961: Cleveland trades 2B Johnny Temple to Baltimore for 1B Ray Barker, C Harry Chiti, and minor leaguer Art Kay.

» April 10, 1962: At Yankee Stadium, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and Bill Skowron, the three Yankees who combined for 143 homers last season, hit Opening Day homers to lead New York to a come-from-behind 7–6 win over Baltimore. Moose's is a 2-run shot to dead center that he legs out for an inside-the -park homer, while Mantle hits his in the 8th inning to tie the game, Maris hits a 3-run shot in the 5th. Johnny Temple, in his first game for the O's, has three hits, including a home run. Starters Billy Hoeft and Whitey Ford are gone after six innings, and the win goes to Ralph Terry, while Skinny Brown takes the loss.
