Tavener was an adequate hitter and a fielding whiz with a strong arm whose career was hurt by his size - 5'5", 138 lb. Detroit manager Ty Cobb dismissed him at a glance in 1921, and Tavener did not become the Tigers' shortstop until 1925. He remained a regular for four seasons. (JK)
