Tasby was the Orioles' regular centerfielder as a rookie in 1959. He once played in the Baltimore outfield with no shoes, afraid that lightning would be attracted to his metal cleats. He was drafted from Boston by the expansion 1961 Senators, for whom he hit 17 home runs. (FK)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» June 9, 1960: George Strickland's 2-run homer in the 6th is the winning margin in Cleveland's 3–2 win over the Red Sox. With the Orioles losing a pair to Detroit, Cleveland stretches its American League lead to one 1/2 games. After the game, the Red Sox send outfielder Gene Stephens to the Orioles for OF Willie Tasby.

» June 18, 1961: The Red Sox pull off one of their greatest rallies in team history, against Washington as they come back from a 12–5 deficit with one out in the 9th to win, 13–12. Willie Tasby of the Senators and Jim Pagliaroni of the Red Sox swap grand slams in the 9th inning of the lid-lifter at Fenway Park, tying the major-league record for slams by two teams in one inning. It is Pagliaroni's 3rd dinger in two days.

» June 27, 1961: Gene Green, Willie Tasby, and Dale Long hit consecutive home runs for the Senators, as they trim Cleveland 8–5.

» June 30, 1961: Whitey Ford (14–2) tops the Senators 5–1 to give the 2nd place Yankees their 22nd win of the month. Roger Maris drives in three runs and Mickey Mantle lines shot over CF Willie Tasby's that rebounds for an inside-the-park home run.

» June 3, 1962: The Senators trade outfielder Willie Tasby to the Indians for pitchers Steve Hamilton and Don Rudolph.
