When the Yankees traded Johnny Allen to Cleveland for Monte Pearson in December 1935, they received Sundra as a throw-in. He won his last four starts in 1938, then ran off 11 straight wins (three in relief) for the 1939 pennant-winners before losing his final start of the season. With the Browns in 1943, he recorded a career-high 15 victories. (JK)

» December 11, 1935: The Yankees trade the hot-tempered Johnny Allen to Cleveland for pitchers Monte Pearson and Steve Sundra, a minor leaguer.

» August 9, 1940: Steve Sundra posts his first win of the year for the Yankees. The Yankees, at 51-51, seem certain to be out of the running for their 5th straight championship. The Yanks will ultimately finish 3rd, losing three straight to the Browns September 15-16.

» March 27, 1941: The Yankees sell P Steve Sundra to the Senators. Sundra, 11–1 in 1939, slipped in 1940 to 4–6.
