Ed Sudol
1920-LCS 3
Sudol, a former beer-truck driver, enjoyed a distinguished 20-year career in the
NL, where, with a little help from the Mets, he became known as The Extra-Inning
Umpire. On May 21, 1964, he called the pitches in the 23-inning contest between the
Giants and Mets that lasted a NL record seven hours and 23 minutes. On September
11, 1974, he was behind the plate when the Cards and Mets went 25 innings. And early
in 1976, the Mets and Cards logged 17 innings with Sudol as plate umpire.
