Wee Willie, just 5'7", created a stir when he jumped the Cardinals for the Browns in 1902, becoming one of the first to play for both St. Louis franchises. He was at his best in 1903, going 21-15 with a 2.27 ERA. (WAB)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» May 18, 1898: Chicago pitcher Walter Thornton has a bad control day as hits three consecutive batters in the 4th in an 11–4 loss to St. Louis. Willie Sudhoff is the winner, while former Colt player George Decker has four hits. Thornton's three HBPs in a row is an ML record.

» June 24, 1901: The Giants edge St. Louis, 3-2, when Sammy Strang singles home Piano Legs Hickman in the bottom of the 9th. Christy Mathewson allows six hits in beating Willie Sudhoff, though the Cards' pitcher hits a two run homer, his only major league round tripper.

» May 20, 1903: Willie Sudhoff beats the Pilgrims, 4-3, but Boston stops the St. Louis pitcher's three-game shut out skein.

» September 27, 1904: In St. Louis, the Browns Willie Sudhoff and the A's Chief Bender face off for 10 innings without either team scoring. The game ends in a tie.
