Tabbed as Billy Herman's replacement in the Cubs' infield, Stringer led NL second basemen in assists in 1941 and errors in 1942. His weak bat sent him back to the minors. In September 1948 an injury to Bobby Doerr gave him a fill-in shot with the Red Sox, and he hung on two more years. (NLM)
