FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» July 13, 1908: New York sweeps the Pirates, beating Lefty Liefeld, 7-0, on a 3-hitter by Christy Mathewson , then taking the nitecap 7-4. Pittsburgh racked up three homers-by Honus Wagner, Chief Wilson and Alan Storke-but to no avail. Joe McGinnity wins the nitecap with relief help from Hooks Wiltse.

» September 22, 1908: The Pirates move to one 1/2 games in back of Chicago and New York by edging Brooklyn 3-2 in 11 innings. Al Storke triples home Honus Wagner, then scores on an error. Tom Catterson then follows with a homer.

» August 29, 1909: The Pirates trade 3B Jap Barbeau, 2B Al Storke, and cash to the Cardinals for 3B Bobby Byrne.

» April 14, 1910: Reds pitcher Fred Beebe fires a 3-hitter in stopping the Cubs, 1–0, in 10 innings. Wildfire Schulte has all three Chicago hits. Beebe was acquired in February from the Cards, along with Alan Storke, for Miller Huggins, Rebel Oakes, and Frank Corridon.
