Stone, a 6'4" 205-lb pitcher, won a career-high 12 games for Washington in 1954,
his rookie season. He was the winning pitcher in that year's All-Star Game, though
he did not officially face a single batter. He came in with two outs in the eighth,
the AL down 9-8, and Red Schoendienst on third. Schoendienst tried to steal home,
and Stone nailed him at the plate. When the AL scored three runs in the next half-inning,
Stone was the winning pitcher.
