Nicknamed Scrap Iron because he played with pain, Stinson had been a reserve for eight ML years when, in 1977, he became the Mariners' first Opening Day catcher. The switch-hitter set an AL record the next year by reaching first six times on catcher's interference. (JCA)

» April 27, 1979: For Seattle, Bob Stinson and Dan Meyer hit 8th inning pinch home runs as the Mariners edge the Yankees, 6–5.

» July 24, 1979: In the first game of a doubleheader, Seattle C Bob Stinson ties a major-league record by allowing two Baltimore batters to reach base on catcher's interference. The Birds win, 7–6, then complete the sweep, 11–3.
