Books and articles about Mel Steiner

On June 14, 1965, the Reds' Jim Maloney no-hit the Mets for 10 innings before Johnny Lewis hit an 11th-inning homer. Two months later, on August 19, Maloney no-hit the Cubs for 10 innings. The umpire behind the plate for both overtime no-hitters was Steiner. He also worked the plate for Sandy Koufax's no-hitter against the Mets on June 30, 1962. (RTM)
