Stark was the Brooklyn borough president, but it was through his clothing store that
he gained his measure of immortality. On Ebbets Field's right-field fence was an
ad that said, "Hit sign. Win suit." But it was near the ground, and the batter had
to hit it on the fly, so Stark was in no danger of losing much money on his proposition.
