» September 26, 1954: In his 2nd start, rookie Brooklyn lefty Karl Spooner
shuts out Pittsburgh 1-0 on a Gil Hodges HR in
the 8th. He fans 12 for a total of 27 strikeouts in
his first 2 ML games, establishing a new record.
Gil Hodges's 8th-inning HR, his 25th at Ebbets Field
(a new club record), gives him 42 for the season,
tying him with Duke Snider for the most by a Dodger.

The Yanks kayo lefty Karl Spooner in the first
with 5 runs on 2 walks, 2 singles and Moose Skowron's
HR. Ford goes all the way for the 5-1 victory.
» April 12, 1962: Pete Richert of the Dodgers, in his ML debut, fans the first six batters he faces against the Reds, tying Karl Spooner's record set on September 22, 1954. This includes four straight strikeouts (a passed ball allows Gordy Coleman to reach 1B) in the 3rd inning. He wins in relief, of Stan Williams, lifted in the 2nd frame after allowing four runs. Richert sparkles, giving up no hits or walks and fanning seven in three 1/3 innings.
» September 20, 1966: Orioles P Tom Phoebus hurls his 2nd straight shutout in his 2nd ML game, blanking the A's 4–0 in Kansas City. Karl Spooner was the last rookie to start with two shutouts.
