» August 9, 2001: Yankees P Ted Lilly is suspended for six games for hitting Anaheim's Scott Spiezio in the head with a pitch in a game last Sunday. NY manager Joe Torre rips into baseball's dean of discipline Frank Robinson for the decision. Lilly was not thrown out of the game by the umpires when the incident occurred.

» October 2, 2002: The Angels even their series with the Yankees at one game apiece by coming from behind to take an 8–6 decision. Anaheim gets home runs from Tim Salmon, Garret Anderson, Troy Glaus, and Scott Spiezio while Alfonso Soriano and Derek Jeter stroke round–trippers for NY. Francisco Rodriguez gets his 1st ML win in relief.

» October 13, 2002: The Angels score 10 runs in the 7th inning on their way to a 13–5 win over the Twins to give Anaheim its first pennant in the team's history. Adam Kennedy was the hero for Anaheim with three home runs and seven RBIs. Scott Spiezio also homers for the Angels, with Francisco Rodriguez getting the win in relief.

» October 22, 2002: The Angels pound out 16 hits in a 10–4 win over the Giants. Ramon Ortiz goes five innings for the victory. Rich Aurilia and Barry Bonds homer for SF while Scott Spiezio drives in three runs for Anaheim.

» October 26, 2002: With the Giants leading 5–0 after six 1/2 innings, the Angels score three runs in the 7th and three more in the 8th to come away with a 6–5 victory that evens the Series at three games apiece. Scott Spiezio hits a 3–run homer for Anaheim while Darin Erstad also connects. Brendan Donnelly gets the win in relief. Shawon Dunston and Barry Bonds homer for SF.
