Sizemore was the 1969 NL Rookie of the Year, batting .271 in 159 games for the Dodgers and tying a ML season record with three bases-loaded triples. Originally a catcher, he was the Opening Day shortstop in 1969 but moved to second base when Los Angeles reacquired Maury Wills. He was sent to St. Louis in a trade for Richie Allen following the 1970 season. Lou Brock credited Sizemore with helping him break Wills's ML stolen-base record in 1974. "You have to have the right man batting behind you," said Brock. "I do. Ted Sizemore. He has to be unselfish, because hitting behind me isn't going to do any good for his batting average. He's going to be distracted by me instead of giving his complete concentration to the pitcher." Sizemore's batting average did drop, to .250 from .282 the previous year. After a year back with the Dodgers, Sizemore was the second baseman for the Phillies' 1977 and 1978 division championships. (RTM)

» October 5, 1970: St. Louis trades controversial slugger Dick Allen to Los Angeles for 2B Ted Sizemore and C Bob Stinson.

» August 7, 1972: When Cleon Jones misses a shoestring catch in the bottom of the 13th inning, Ted Sizemore races around with an inside-the-park homer to give the Cards a 3–2 win over the 2nd place Mets. Diego Segui, in relief of Bob Gibson who pitches 10 innings, is the winner. Mets 2B Ken Boswell has no chances to tie a major-league record for an extra inning game.

» April 17, 1975: During a 14–7 loss to the Mets, the Cardinals Ted Simmons homers from both sides of the plate, while teammate 2B Ted Sizemore ties a major-league record with three errors in the 6th inning.

» March 2, 1976: The Cards trade 2B Ted Sizemore to the Dodgers for OF Willie Crawford.

» October 7, 1977: Down 5–3 with two outs in the 9th inning, the Dodgers catch lightning in a bottle. Pinch hitter Vic Davalillo beats out a 2-strike drag bunt and pinch hitter Manny Mota follows with a long double off Greg Luzinski's glove. Mota reaches 3rd on a throw that Ted Sizemore mishandles. Lopes' grounder hits a seam in the carpet and caroms off Mike Schmidt's knee to Larry Bowa, and the shortstop's throw is ruled late. Los Angeles pulls out a 6–5 victory.

» February 23, 1979: The Phillies trade five players to the Cubs for 2B Manny Trillo, OF Greg Gross, and C Dave Rader. Chicago gets Barry Foote, Jerry Martin, Ted Sizemore, and two minor leaguers.
