Books and articles about Dick Sisler

Son of Hall of Famer George Sisler and brother of pitcher Dave Sisler, Dick returned from three years of military duty to debut with the 1946 World Champion Cardinals. Dealt to the Phillies in 1948, he was moved from first base to left field in 1950, and hit a dramatic tenth-inning, game-winning home run at Ebbets Field on the final day of the season to clinch the pennant. In 1953 he returned to the minors, where he played and managed until made a Reds coach in 1961. He succeeded an ailing Fred Hutchinson as Cincinnati manager in late 1964 and piloted the club to an 89-73 mark in 1965. He went on to coach for the Cardinals, Padres, Mets, and Yankees. (AL)
