A light-hitting, 6'4" outfielder, Simpson's greatest asset was his speed. For many years, pitcher Pedro Ramos claimed to be the fastest runner in baseball. At Cleveland on the last day of the 1962 season, Simpson won a 75-yard dash, handily defeating the other contestants, headed by Ramos. (RTM)

» December 2, 1965: Baltimore sends 1B Norm Siebern to the Angels for OF Dick Simpson.

» December 9, 1965: OF Frank Robinson is traded from Cincinnati to the Orioles for pitchers Milt Pappas and Jack Baldschun and OF Dick Simpson. The Reds Bill DeWitt defends the trade by labeling Robinson "an old 30,"a concept that Robinson will quickly prove wrong.

» January 11, 1968: The Cardinals trade OF Alex Johnson to the Reds for OF Dick Simpson.
